Ironically, I also have land in Dunn County (where the cabin would be go), but live in the Twin Cities. Just curious if you were happy with the construction and if it has held up over the years? It's green now, but it won't be for long--autumn is marching right in. We love the hills; they change the view with every shift of light, and they keep us in shape.

Nina, always delighted to have you visit--and the monsieur, and the dog, too....

Best~ BrettTrout Caviarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11236671377889601457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5190698551624574472.post-91496146969372622192010-09-19T16:12:58.658-07:002010-09-19T16:12:58.658-07:00What a beautiful spot in the world... It might be slow but it will happen...plus, small plants have more resistance to chilling than big ones do. (Learn from my experience here!) I would say cover the top completely with the ends open until it really starts getting cold, which for you is probably mid-Oct., then cover the sides too.

My favorite greenhouse stuff is arugula, then some cold lettuces (heading and non-), and mache and mizuna and minutina. Spinach comes in near the bottom but it does well too.

Give it a try, really.elhttp://fastgrowtheweeds.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5190698551624574472.post-54501692114346709812010-09-19T08:14:30.746-07:002010-09-19T08:14:30.746-07:00El, it is wicked hilly! 20 acres, but if we flatte...El, it is wicked hilly! 20 acres, but if we flattened it out we'd have 40, goes our standard joke.

The wood ticks are a nuisance, though harmless. It's deer tick season coming on, much more of a concern. We've used Frontline and Advantix, and neither is that effective, though the Advantix seems somewhat better. You don't have ticks in MI? Artichokes, cherries, and no ticks, paradise!

I may just follow your suggestion about hooping over the Bide-A-Wee garden. You really think stuff planted now has a chance?

Hey, Charlie, the Creamery in Downsville, or Stout Island Lodge near Birchwood might meet your and Anne's standards. Super 8 in Chetek...perhaps less so(!). At any rate we'd love to have you visit. BTW we're grilling a piece of boneless SH lamb out there tonight, to serve with grilled veg and a roasted chili cream sauce, grilled polenta. Grill, grill, grill....

Best to you both~ BrettTrout Caviarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11236671377889601457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5190698551624574472.post-52943898569674781812010-09-19T06:30:00.000-07:002010-09-19T06:30:00.000-07:00Spectacular! My dog Alex spent his weekends in River Falls usually, and despite the prodigious use of the drops, I would find them on him or--worse--in the house. I get the willies thinking about it.

Hey: Go to Home Despot or Menard's and spend $25 on a roll of plastic and 4-8 3/4" PVC UV-stabilized electrical conduit. You can make hoops of the conduit (they're 10' long) and cover your garden with the plastic. Plant another row of arugula/salad stuff this weekend and you'll be eating it at Thanksgiving, and you'll thank me.elhttp://fastgrowtheweeds.com/noreply@blogger.com
